Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cup all purpose flour gently spooned and leveled
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/4 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp semi-sweet chocolate chips for topping

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside
  • In a separate larger bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar until well combined.
  • Add your egg, egg yolk and vanilla to the butter and sugar mixture and whisk until combined.
  • Add your flour mixture little by little to your wet ingredients and combine well with a spatula.
  • Once your dough is combined well, add in the 1 1/2 cups of chocolate chips and fold into your dough with a spatula.
  • Line a 9×9 inch deep baking dish with parchment paper. Press the cookie dough into the bottom of the pan until you have an even layer.
  • Top the cookie dough with the remaining 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips and spread evenly over the top.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes or until the center is baked through and the top is starting to turn golden brown.
  • Let cool for 20-30 minutes before removing from the pan with the parchment paper. The cookies will be gooey and a little doughy until they set completely.
  • Once set, cut into 12-16 squares for serving.
